At Georgetown University, we are proud to present the Latin America in the Global Economy Database, a comprehensive resource designed to offer deep insights into the multifaceted economic and political landscape of Latin America within the global context. This project is made possible through our collaboration with Alphacast, a leader in data management and analysis technology.
Our Mission
The database aims to provide stakeholders, policymakers, researchers, and the public with the tools and knowledge necessary to understand and analyze key trends shaping Latin America and its interactions with the global economy. Our focus encompasses a broad array of topics crucial for understanding global economic and political dynamics.
Scope of the Database
- Geopolitics: Analyze military spending, UN voting patterns, freedom and democracy indicators, trade restrictions, social unrest, property rights, and demographic trends to gain a deeper understanding of the region's political landscape.
- Trade and Production: Explore diverse trade statistics, energy balance, and relationships with major trading partners like the USA, China, and India. Monitor GDP per capita and study trade patterns to identify emerging opportunities.
- External Accounts: Evaluate current account balances, foreign investment flows, real exchange rates, international reserves, and remittances. Assess financial assistance from international financial institutions.
- Public Finance: Investigate public sector deficits, public debt composition, country risk, and trends in public spending. Understand the long-term sustainability of public debt and fiscal policies.
- Monetary and Financial: Track inflation rates, monetary policy interest rates, exchange rate regimes, and credit availability. Analyze corporate bond rates and public and corporate debt amortizations.
